SXT
The entry-level Durango is priced at $43,265 and includes a $1,595 destination fee. The SXT’s engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that produces 293 horsepower and torque of 260 pounds. The SXT can be ordered with rear- or four-wheel drive. All Durangos are equipped with an eight-speed transmission. The EPA rates the 3.6-liter Durango at 19/26/21 mpg city/highway/combined with RWD and 18/25/21 with AWD.
The SXT may be basic – not even a third-row seat comes standard – but it does include heated front seats, heated steering wheels, a power-adjustable seat for the driver, automatic climate control with three zones, six speakers and an 8.4″ touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto . Blind spot monitors, rear cross traffic alert and a heated steering wheel are the only driver-assist features that come standard.
The Plus and Premium packages are available on most Durango trim levels. They add some of the tech and luxury features that come with higher trims. The SXT is only available with the Plus Package, which adds adaptive cruise control, a power sunroof and forward collision alert.
GT
The GT’s name may lead you to believe that it is the first step of the Durango performance hierarchy. However, in this case the only thing more sporty about the GT are its looks. And only if you find a black grille and black window trim as well as dual exhausts and 20-inch wheels sportier than the SXT 18s. The GT has the same 3.6 liter Pentastar powertrain as SXT, but it offers 295 horsepower instead of the SXT’s 293 hp thanks to dual exhaust. The GT also comes with a power liftgate and a third row seat. Pricing starts at $45,765.
R/T
The Durango is now a high-performance vehicle. The R/T, and the Citadel step-up, are the only Durangos that combine a V-8 and RWD. They both have a 5.7 liter V-8 generating 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet. The EPA rates this 5.7-liter V-8 at 14/22/17 mpg, whether it’s with RWD or AWD. The R/T costs $56,865. It also comes with a sport suspension and a 10.1″ touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Citadel
The Citadel, priced at $57,265, is the top of the Durango line. It comes with either a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 or Pentastar V-6. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with power adjustments and heated second row captain chairs are standard equipment.
SRT 392
The Durango gets wild here. The “392”, in the name, refers to its 6.4-liter engine’s cubic-inch displacement. It produces 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet-of-torque that is routed to all of the four wheels. The SRT’s adaptive suspension and Brembo braking system help it control its prodigious acceleration. Standard sport seats with suede inserts also keep the occupants firmly in place. SRT Durangos do not come with some of the Citadel’s standard luxury features, like the moonroof. However, the Plus and Premium packages can add it back. The SRT 392 is priced at $76,590 and gets an estimated 13/19/15 mpg.
SRT Hellcat
The current electric vehicle offerings indicate that, one day, the 710-hp AWD only family hauler may not seem absurd. In an age where internal combustion is the norm, the Durango SRT Hellcat’s output is insane. But, in an era when most cars are powered by internal combustion engines, the supercharged 6.2 liter V-8 might not seem so crazy. Dodge upgraded the Brembo brakes, but the Hellcat is otherwise very similar to the SRT trim with naturally aspirated engines. The EPA estimates that the Captain Insano will get 12/17/13 mpg.
